Westmeath Community Development Ltd was established in 1993. The company
applied for and was successful in securing funding for County Westmeath
under the LEADER II Programme in 1995.
With the designation of County
Westmeath as a disadvantaged area, the company also became the Area Based
Partnership for the County and administered the Local Development Programme
(LDP) since 1996. This programme aimed to work with specific target groups
in disadvantaged areas of County Westmeath and WCD is responsible for all of
County Westmeath apart from Athlone Urban.
Athlone Community Taskforce
(ACT), our equivalent in Athlone town is responsible for this Athlone Urban.
The company currently runs a number of programmes and projects that include
the LEADER+ Programme, the Local Development Social Inclusion Programme, the
Millennium Partnership Fund, Volunteering Programme, Immigrant Integration
Programme, Rural Social Scheme, the Migrant Workers Programme to name but a
few.
