Mullingar Harp School
Mullingar Harp School was founded in the 1980’s by Tom Maher an Irish harp enthusiast who sought to promote the instrument through the foundation of the school together with arranging recitals and concerts. Author of the book “The Harp’s a Wonder” his love and knowledge of the Irish harp and its history is apparent. Tom sought to promote the instrument, aided by his friend Patsy Sheridan and through the Mullingar Harp School students were encouraged not only to play the harp but also to pass on their knowledge, experience and training to others. Indeed the schools present teachers are some of those first harp students. Tom Maher’s, son Colm is a well renowned and respected harp maker. Today the school is still going strong with dedicated and talented teachers nurturing the musical progress of our students. Our teachers are, Tracy Flemming, Kim Flemming and Tamara Hoban all of whom have a wide range of performing and teaching experience. Lessons are held on three Saturday’s each month during school terms in the Newbury Hotel, Mullingar and are on a one to one basis, with group lessons from time to time during the course of each term. Students of the school have in the past played at charitable events such as the Goal Ball and civic receptions such as the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Mullingar Harp School welcomes enquiries from those interested in learning the instrument and joining the school and our contact numbers are listed. Contact Numbers: Maeve Fenton 087/9470105 |
